Lesson 1 - Unforgettable

SUMMARY OF THE LESSON

In Lesson 1, we will begin by looking at a photo of a room for inspiration. I will share the things I look for to gather ideas when conceptualizing art for a space. We will then use the inspiration to paint a large 30x40” floral that will “fit” into our inspiration room.

We will begin by covering the canvas in bold splashes of colour then work in layers revisiting many of the techniques learned in earlier lessons to create a beautiful textured floral.

LESSON OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson students will have an understanding of the following concepts:

  • Finding inspiration to create art that fits within a particular space.
  • Incorporating hints of bold colour within a more neutral palette.
  • Painting in layers, knowing when to paint wet in wet and when to stop and let things dry.
  • Creating large textured flowers using a trowel or palette knife.
  • Drawing/carving thick layers of paint to create interest
  • Keeping things light, loose and fun!
